If the Polo GTI’s somewhat soft styling is too understated for you, Volkswagen has released an antidote, in the form of the Polo R-Line styling kit.

Debuting in Europe this week, the latest package in Volkswagen’s wider R-Line styling catalogue is available only with the Euro-market Polo’s Comfortline and Highline variants. Still, we reckon you could wrangle that front bumper for your GTI if you tried.

Along with the tougher front bumper, the Polo R-Line exterior pack offers 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels, a Golf R-style glossy black grille and R badge, and a faux diffuser at the rear with a single chromed exhaust tip. There’s also a top-mounted spoiler and side skirts.

Add the R-Line Plus package and you get a host of interior tweaks, including Alcantara or leather sports seat options, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel (likely from the GTI), gloss-black dash highlights, aluminium pedals and door sills, as well as a black roof lining.

It’s not the Polo R you’ve been hoping for, but that may still be on the cards. Whether the Polo R-Line styling kit will make its way to our shores is unclear. Volkswagen South Africa has yet to offer any of the brand’s existing R-Line packages locally.

They’ve been experimenting with never-before-seen modifications from some of the aftermarket’s top brand names and couldn’t hold back their secrets any longer. We’ll be unveiling all of these featured finds very shortly, starting with our brand new C&L Performance prototype cold air intake system! See the results after the jump!

Bama Custom tune files are now available for your 2011 5.0L Mustang through AmericanMuscle.com and they have become a trusted partner for many of the aftermarket test products that you will see. This means that their Bama calibration experts are first in line to develop precision custom tunes for many new products before they even hit the street!

2011 CAI & Bama Custom Tuning Dyno Results:

Stock – no modifications: 363RWHP / 331RWTQ

Factory tune, Prototype C&L cold air intake: 374RWHP / 338RWTQ

Bama Custom Tune, stock Airbox: 379RWHP / 357RWTQ

Bama Custom Tune, Prototype C&L cold air intake: 385RWHP / 362RWTQ

They picked up as much as 28 Horsepower at approximately 5400RPM. These substantial gains are sure to please any 5 liter enthusiast, and help burn some rubber off those new tires!

As you can see, unlocking hidden horsepower and torque on your 2011 Mustang is as easy as a custom tune. In addition to power gains, you can greatly improve driveability, throttle response, and shifting without sacrificing anything! Interested in turning your 2011 5.0L GT into a tire shredding machine? These calibrations are available for purchase from AmericanMuscle starting today!

Cruden B.V. – the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of interactive motion-based racing simulators – is offering its new racing simulator as an extreme alternative to popular home gaming equipment for affluent motorsport and performance driving enthusiasts. The Hexatech – a professional full motion simulator with six ‘degrees of freedom’ (6DOF), realistic g-Force simulation up to multiple g’s, seat belt tensioners and 100 per cent realistic steering feedback – is normally found in top secret Formula One factories and automotive research centres. Now, this same sophisticated equipment can provide the definitive motorsport experience at home, with prices for the base simulator package starting at £120,000.

“Snooker rooms, swimming pools, gyms and cinemas have been done time and again. Now, enter the professional racing simulator,” says Frank Kalff, Cruden’s commercial director. “Let’s be clear: this is not a video game linked up to a steering wheel, race seat and pedals. Although easy to operate, this is the exact same equipment used by the top racing drivers and engineers to improve their race craft and evaluate new tracks and car settings. Our simulator and the software it uses cannot be bought in a store.”

A Hexatech is for life – not just for Christmas
The Hexatech promises years of highly challenging entertainment both in terms of durability – it is built to endure hundreds of thousands of ‘driving’ kilometres per year in almost constant use and lasts 10 to 15 years without major overhaul – and in ensuring drivers never get tired of the quest to improve. Kalff explains: “Driving a real Formula One car is not easy and getting fast and consistent laps in the simulator isn’t either. The simulator takes minutes to learn and enjoy but a lifetime to master, unlike most driving games which are conquered and then discarded before too long. The immense challenge of honing the same level of driving skill as a top racing driver is unbelievably addictive and satisfying.”
Pimp your sim – customisation options

Creating a bespoke simulator – or even multiple linked-up systems – will introduce an unrivalled centre-piece within the home. The Hexatech is now available as a three-seater (3CTR), where passengers sit either side of the driver to experience the ride together. Cruden can supply open or closed cockpits, fit bodywork or use actual vehicles, and apply the livery of a race or road vehicle according to customer preference. Owners can choose between three ‘wrap around’ 42 inch screens or (stereo) projectors to view their virtual world of state-of-the-art graphics. Friends and family can watch the race projected onto nearby screens or walls. There is a wide variety of software packages and competition settings to chose from, allowing customers to host fast lap shoot-outs, 24-hour endurance races and full championships, as well as to select race tracks and cars; for example from Formula One, rally, NASCAR and sports car racing.

Ownership is made easy with full installation, training, access to upgrades and on-call support provided as part of the purchase. The electro-mechanical system typically requires only five KWh of electricity, making the Hexatech economical to run. The simulator has a footprint of 2.3 m x 3 m, requires a floor loading of 1,000 kg/m2 and a minimum ceiling height of 3 metres. Cruden also makes static and 3DOF simulators to customer order.

To celebrate Christmas Lamborghini-style, the Italian super sports car manufacturer has produced a range of limited edition gift-boxed candles and ceramic baubles, inspired by its Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni.

The ceramic baubles in box-sets of three are finished in contrasting Blue Caelum and White Monocerus, two of eight colours in which the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni, a model dedicated to the legendary Lamborghini test driver, was launched this year.

A set of slow-burning candles in the same special colours is also available. With the Lamborghini shield imprinted on one side, the candles are as suitable for year-round use as they are for the holiday season. Lamborghini’s Christmas collection also includes 2010 wall and desk calendars.

An extensive range of clothing completes the Winter 2009/2010 Collezione, with the new Lamborghini Future and History series: from men’s Merino Bombers and long-sleeved Polos and T-shirts to ladies’ Winter Trench Coats, Diagonal Sweatshirts and Faux Fur Hooded Jackets, it is easy to keep stylishly warm this Christmas.

Finally, for fans of Lamborghini’s recently launched 1.1m euro Reventón Roadster, the established Tricolore series completes the collection: inspired by the aeronautic design influences of the Reventón, men’s Tricolore Fleece Sweatshirts and Long-Sleeved Polos might ease the disappointment of not finding the real car under the Christmas tree.

Prices Euro V.A.T. exlc. UDS taxes excl. Sterling VAT incl.

Following the successful incorporation of New Mégane Coupé in Need for Speed Undercover which was released last November, Renault and Electronic Arts have continued their association with the inclusion of New Mégane R.S. in Need for Speed Shift, the latest addition to the NFS series which went on sale on September 17.

Need for Speed’s development team were won over by the looks and performance credentials of New Mégane R.S., and have featured it in the game’s line-up of 70 cars which are considered to be the most legendary models of the past three-and-a-half decades.

Renault’s experts and Electronic Arts developers worked hand-in-hand for almost a year to make New Mégane R.S.’s role in the game as lifelike as possible.

Need for Speed Shift delivers driving sensations on a par with those felt behind the wheel of the cars themselves, and its unique gameplay features provide players with an unparalleled experience as they embark on a world tour of the planet’s most legendary circuits.

Created 15 years ago, Need for Speed evolves from year to year, enabling players to enjoy the thrills of motor racing with increasing realism. More than 100 million copies of Need for Speed have been sold, making it the biggest motor racing video game franchise ever thanks to its combination of prestigious cars and incomparable technical qualities and graphics. The game is developed and published by Electronic Arts, the world’s leading video game publisher, whose products constantly seek to push out the envelope when it comes to innovation, player immersion and intensity.

Like a car, a boat distinguishes its owner and Lancia shares common values with performance boating, typified by the pleasure derived from a unique form of travel. Lancia’s association with the sea dates back many years and involves sailing as well as powered boating. From the Flaminia class speed boats of the 1960s to the Monaco Classic Week 2009.

Now, Lancia’s first powerboat is making its debut in Venice, a city where roads and cars are replaced by canals and boats – or launches (lance) as the Venetians prefer to call them.

The stage chosen for the event is the Venice International Film Festival, of which Lancia is main sponsor. While Lancia cars accompany celebrities to and from Palazzo del Cinema, the Lancia Powerboat will be carrying others to and from the moorings of the Hotel Excelsior.

The new boat has been developed jointly by four Italian companies, each leader in its own sector: Sacs, who produce luxury RIBs; FPT, a company in the Fiat Group and manufacturer of the “best in class” engines and Martini, regular partner of Lancia in the field of racing.

Boats and glamour

Lancia’s involvement with boats dates back to the company’s origins. Back in the 1920s, the company’s founder, Vincenzo Lancia himself, drew inspiration from the ribbing of boat hulls to design the monocoque body shell of the Lancia Lambda, an innovation that changed car design for ever. Over the next decades the link between Lancia’s prestigious cars and the yachting world grew even stronger, resulting in the creation of a special class of speed boats in the 1960s. Flaminia Class boats were three point racers powered by the same V6 engine as the Lancia Flaminia car. In 1980 Lancia sponsored the J24 sailing class, and in 1987 the finals of the One Ton Cup in Naples. Later, Lancia was behind the Azzurra boat in Italy’s challenge for the America’s Cup, as well as the Destriero, the boat that won the Blue Ribbon Atlantic crossing race with Cesare Fiorio, winner of six world rally championships and racing director of Team Lancia. For demonstration purposes a Class 2 offshore powerboat was even equipped with the 8.32 Ferrari engine used to power a special version of the Lancia Thema. In more recent times, Lancia has become a partner of the Monaco Yacht Club and sponsored the 2008 Viareggio-Montecarlo-Viareggio power yacht race. Lancia sponsored the Monaco Classic Week in 2007 and is doing again this year, the centenary year of the Yacht Club’s flagship, the Tuiga.

It should also be remembered that Lancia’s latest model, the Delta, is now the inspiration for a competition announced in Yacht Design magazine, with five of Italy’s most prestigious marine design studios invited to re-interpret the car in a marine key. The proposed designs will be presented at the Monaco Yacht Club on the 24th September, during the Monaco Boat Show.

Cinema, fashion, design and marine sport are the stages that Lancia has chosen to consolidate its presence and highlight the class and style of Italian products.
The Venice International Film Festival brings all these elements together and is therefore an ideal opportunity for Lancia to take to the water, in the company of stars of the cinema.

Partners

Lancia is continuing its historic partnership with Martini, acting as technical sponsor for the Lancia Café in Venice’s Hotel Excelsior.

Sports fans are sure to spot the distinctive red, dark blue and light blue stripes of the Martini Racing Team, enhancing the elegant livery of the Lancia Powerboat and evoking the domination of Lancia and Martini, first in the world rally championships of the 1980s and later in offshore class 1 powerboat racing. The continuing partnership between Lancia and Martini confirms the affinity of these two icons of Italian style for sport and elegance.
Martini, Lancia and Sacs provide the lifestyle and “joie de vivre”, while the Fiat Powertrain Technologies provide the exhilarating engines.

The Lancia Powerboat

To get you moving on the water, Lancia has embodied all the aristocratic elegance of a great sports coupe into a boat built by Sacs. Sacs has twenty years of experience in producing all types of RIB, and is world leader in high-tech luxury RIBs. The Lancia Powerboat is the ultimate expression of this type of vessel.
The boat was designed, modelled and built using the advanced tools and equipment that have established Sacs as the sector’s technical leader.
The Lancia Powerboat is the creation of Christian Grande, one of today’s most talented boat designers, and the genius behind concepts that extend beyond the confines of boat design into the realm of dynamic art.
Each individual boat is unique, manufactured industrially, but finished with all the care and attention of a master boat-builder. The fibreglass hull is made using moulds finished by robot milling machines. Every component is then assembled and installed by hand to permit each boat to be personalised to customer specifications. In this way Sacs combines industrial levels of productivity with all the exclusivity of ‘custom’ production.
The Lancia Powerboat will be presented to the public at the Genoa Boat Show.

Characteristics

The hull is 13.10 metres in length, with a broad beam of 3.83 metres. These figures give a moderate coefficient of fineness, in search of balance between performance and comfort on board. A limited draft of only 0.80 metres permits navigation even in shallow waters. A weight to power ratio of about 7.5 kg/HP establishes the boat as one of the most powerful available. The two N67-560 engines by Fiat Powertrain Technologies are “best in class”. The choice of JMD propulsion, as used in competitive powerboats, typifies the quest for high dynamic efficiency, not only for speed purposes, but to reduce consumption and emissions by ensuring maximum screw efficiency too. The fuel tank has a capacity of 1000 litres, giving sufficient autonomy even for long crossings. Cruising speeds range from 15 to 45 knots, while top speed under ideal loading conditions tops 55 knots. The Lancia Powerboat can carry up to 11 persons, and has a cabin to sleep two.

The modelling and finish of the exterior surfaces faithfully reflects Lancia style. Designed by Christian Grande, the Lancia Powerboat is characterised by an aggressive yet balanced profile, with perfectly proportioned bow, cockpit and stern. The hood blends perfectly with the lines of the boat, thanks to a low profile that accentuates the vessel’s sporting character. You can nevertheless stand up in the cockpit even with the hood in place, if you want to drive in maximum comfort and total privacy. The bow deck incorporates two sunbathing mattresses to either side of the central walkway that leads to the bow like a catwalk for passengers to embark and disembark. In the same way, the engine covers at the stern are upholstered to create a second sunbathing area, with another walkway leading to the bathing platform. The windows are design elements of special importance, each with a specific function and style. The side windows accentuate the boat’s aggressive character; the windscreen opens to the bow gangway, and the rear window evokes the fascinating style of a classic car. The RIB tubes are largely incorporated into the hull, emerging only where their presence serves to facilitate manoeuvring in tight spaces without the need for fenders. The tubes also ensure unsinkability by providing a number of separate air compartments. Rows of LEDs under the transom and front windscreen simulate the appearance of modern Lancia car lights and emphasise the advanced technology and racing temperament of the FPT engines. The deck expresses the boat’s dynamism, with every aspect designed, shaped and finished to convey a sense of movement even when the boat is stationary. No perimeter handrails protrude to compromise the purity of the boat’s sensuous lines. Passengers are nevertheless well protected by tall inboard backrests and experience a sensation of greater stability than normal thanks to the low cockpit floor. The sky is yours at the touch of a button too! The hood retracts into a dedicated compartment leaving the full beauty of the cockpit open to the sun. Martini Racing graphics add a final sporting touch. A fold-away LCD television and a galley complete the cockpit equipment.
In the cabin, furnishing is characterised by modern shapes and materials, and the lounge converts quickly to a double bunk. Air conditioning lets you escape from the heat of the sun and cool down. Bathroom facilities are minimalist but impeccably finished. There are even coloured LEDs to provide romantic lighting in the shower.

The driving experience

The Lancia Powerboat is the ideal choice for owners of character, lovers of speed who would never think of giving up the wheel because that would mean losing control over so much power. 1120 horsepower, delivered at 3000 rpm, propel you at up to 55 knots. The Fiat Powertrain Technologies N67-560 engines develop ideal torque and power curves for marine use, with bags of thrust at low engine speeds to get the hull planning effectively. Driving the Lancia Powerboat is a ‘not to be missed’ experience, and offers you the choice of moderating power as you would in an elegant saloon or using it to the full as you would in a thoroughbred racing boat. The choice is entirely up to the driver. The hull’s profile in the water has been carefully designed so that anybody can drive the boat just like a Lancia car, but with the added excitement of travel without limits. If you want a more stimulating experience, all you have to do is adjust the trim of the propulsion. Two buttons on the throttle levers modify the propulsion angle to move the screws higher or lower in the water. This changes the angle of the hull with respect to the surface of the water, increasing speed or stability in rough water. The hull is derived from a Sacs racing prototype, and does not need flaps, making it especially easy to drive. The engines are controlled by electronic levers that operate the throttles and smoothly engage forward and reverse propulsion. The engines respond instantly, giving you complete control over available power, and allowing you to turn and negotiate waves with speed and precision.

FPT engines

FPT – Fiat Powertrain Technologies is the Fiat Group company specialising in the R&D, production and sale of engines and transmissions for automotive, industrial, marine, power generation and railway applications.
The FPT engine range spans 20 to 1020 HP, and displacements from 1,000 to 20,100 cc.
FPT is one of the world’s leading power train manufacturers, and boasts over a hundred years of experience through different brands. In 2008, output reached 2.9 million engines and 2.4 million gearboxes and axles. FPT employs a workforce of around 20,000 (including 3,000 highly qualified engineers), in 16 production plants and 11 research centres (two of which are dedicated to advanced research) located in nine different countries.

FPT’s N67-560 diesel engines are best in class, as their main specifications clearly show: weight to power ratio is 1.16 kg/HP; power to displacement ratio is 83.58 HP/litre; and volume to power ratio is 1.2 dm3/HP. The N67-560 engine is derived from the N67-450. Various changes have been made, however, making the new engines far more suitable for racing use without losing any of the reliability for which FPT’s touring engines are famed. Technical developments include the use of a higher class of turbocharger for better boost and air flow. Injector operating pressure and atomiser flow have also been increased to inject more fuel in less time. Combustion chamber design has been modified to improve efficiency while also reducing combustion pressure in order to extend engine life. A new air/water heat exchanger has been installed to reduce intake pressure drop and lower the temperature of the combustion cycle. The flow rate of the oil pump has also been increased to improve lubrication. Finally, ‘ladder frame’ reinforcement ribbing has been added to the bottom of the cylinder block to absorb the stress of high speed operation on water. Prior to selection as power unit for the Lancia Power boat, the N67-560 engine was tested in endurance racing at even greater power outputs. Because of the durations and speeds involved, endurance racing provides the toughest dynamic testing to which any marine engine can be subjected. The victory of four N67 engines in the prestigious Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race in 2008 is tangible proof of the excellent performance of the turbo diesels in FPT’s N series, which includes 370, 400, 450 and 480 HP engines.

Good news for all the auto gaming fans out there! The first batch of screen shots of the new Gran Turismo 5 for PS3 have just been released. So far, it’s just five shots of the Japanese Super GT-spec Nismo GT-R, but it looks great.

The long awaited and highly anticipated fifth installment from the iconic racing simulator franchise packs some 1000 different vehicles to choose from – according to Sony, more than twice as many as its “closest racing competitor” (wonder who they’re talking about) – brought to life in unprecedented quality with state-of-the-art damage rendering, rollover crashes and the whole nine yards. There’s even a sweet little feature worked in to allow gamers to export their favorite replay footage straight to YouTube. Alright, enough hype. Check out the screen shots in the high-resolution image gallery below.

The Porsche Design Group and Singapore-based mega-yacht builder Royal Falcon Fleet have reached the first milestone of the construction of the RFF135. The first joint project for the two companies, it is a luxurious anomaly on the water: a power catamaran with a length of more than 40 metres. The outer hull and the interior are in keeping with the functional, timeless and puristic hand of the Porsche Design Studio at Zell am See (Austria), which was responsible for the styling.

The appearance of the RFF135 is particularly extraordinary, as it was conceived as a “spacecraft on the water”, as was requested by the customer. In this form, the catamaran platform offers completely new possibilities for configuration in exterior and interior design. Unlike a great number of mega-yachts, the interior was styled in a highly modern way and captures the dynamic contours of the hull.

Its typical Porsche design is unmistakable: Luxurious and functional, it dispenses with floridness and opulence of any kind. On the contrary, an unadorned design and authentic, premium and comfortable materials constitute the flair of the interior. The generous impact of its space goes beyond established standards for a 135-foot (41.2 metre) yacht.

After the successful completion of the development phase, the construction of the hull for the first RFF135 began in September 2008. At the end of the year, the hull will be relocated to Sweden, where the technological installations and interior fit-out will be carried out. Royal Falcon Fleet has engaged the Kockums and the Incat Crowther firms for the construction design of the catamaran. Kockums, a Swedish subsidiary of Thyssen-Krupp, is known for leading-edge technology in the area of marine technology. The Australian-based shipbuilding engineers of the Incat Crowther firm have decades of experience in the construction of large power catamarans. The launch of this first Royal Falcon Fleet power catamaran designed by Porsche Design is planned for the fourth quarter of 2010.

“In 1987, we designed the ‘Kineo’ power yacht, an exclusive speedboat, of which there are only three examples worldwide and which drew attention for its characteristic dolphin form”, says Dr. Jürgen Geßler, CEO of Porsche Design Group. “Our newest project once again demonstrates that our design, outstanding in many ways, is setting trends in numerous fields. With the first Royal Falcon Fleet yacht, we are building a bridge to the Porsche Design Sport textile collection that was developed specifically for the maritime area.”

“We have now reached an important milestone in mastering this path-breaking project”, says M. A. Zaman, president and CEO of Royal Falcon Fleet. “Under the guidance of highly qualified experts from Australia, France, Sweden and the U.S., we are constructing the hull of the RFF135. On December 15, 2009, it is going from Asia to Sweden, where it will be completed. And at the end of 2010, the first Royal Falcon Fleet will be launched – the ultimate luxury experience at sea.

“In many respects, this project is an anomaly”, says Roland Heiler, executive director of the Porsche Design Studio at Zell am See. “The sole requirement from Royal Falcon Fleet was to implement contours outside of the stereotypical boat aesthetic. This gave us considerable creative latitude and the result was a revolutionary design – a real challenge for the ship architects. This innovative yacht concept quickly drew them into its thrall, however, so that all the participants are now working painstakingly on the realisation of the design.”

Royal Falcon Fleet Plc.
Royal Falcon Fleet, a Singapore-based builder of luxury yachts, was founded by a Swedish investor. The goal of the firm is to develop mega-yachts that stand out for their innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and handcrafted European interiors.

Porsche Design Group
The Porsche Design Group, based in Bietigheim-Bissingen, is a majority-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG in Stuttgart. The activities of the company are concentrated on the company divisions Porsche Design, Porsche Design Driver’s Selection and the Porsche Design Studio at Zell am See in Austria.

Porsche Design Studio
The Porsche Design Studio at Zell am See, Austria, stands for the clear, timeless, unmistakable design signature that distinguishes all products of the Porsche Design Group. Moreover, the studio also handles industrial and product design for other companies. The Porsche Design Studio is one of the most renowned design houses in Europe.

Italian sports car manufacturer, Alfa Romeo, has paired up with TV’s fashion expert, Louise Roe, to challenge two up-and-coming fashion designers to create a line of women’s jeans that would be as cool and desirable as the Alfa MiTo and, and at the same time, raise money for charity.

The result is a one-off series of limited edition skinny fit jeans – available via www.mitojeans.co.uk – that echo the genealogy concept by deconstructing first generation jeans to create new, high fashion jeans complete with a high quality leather waistband and Alfa Romeo red stitching.

London-based fashion designers Bjork and McElligott, who have already created outfits for a number of celebrities, also introduced other distinct and attractive styling touches including embroidered rear pockets – one featuring the serpent from Alfa Romeo’s iconic badge on the right plus their own logo on the left pocket – to create recognisable and distinct jeans.

Significantly most Alfa MiTos feature a DNA button that alters the responsiveness of the accelerator, brakes and traction to suit different driving conditions – Dynamic, Normal and All Weather.

Sophie McElligott said: “The DNA button gave us an extra framework to operate within. The Alfa MiTo’s parentage from the Alfa 8C and the concept that DNA is in your genes made the project’s beneficiary an easy choice.”

The designers chose the charity Jeans for Genes to profit from the sale of the high class jeans and found two boutique retail outlets in London through the charity’s patron, Donna Ida.

Priced at £75 a pair, the designer jeans are expected to raise vital funds for Jeans for Genes.

If you’ve been trying to raise your high score on that iPhone or iPod Touch racing game but you just can’t get your chi going without a steering wheel, this baby could be for you. Made by CTA Digital, you clip the phone into a holder, clip the holder into the wheel, and channel your Herr Schumacher.

Splurge for the top-of-the-line model and the wheel is attached to a suction cup by an adjustable arm, and you can go past Schumi straight to Kwai Chang Caine — that’s straight up Kung Fu badness. We won’t mention how it might make you look, but you’re not worried about that, are you? In case you’re wondering, though, you can get a glimpse in the video after the jump.
