New Mazda3 (Axela) pre-orders start in Japan

mazda axela 01 New Mazda3 (Axela) pre orders start in JapanMazda Motor Corporation began taking orders today for the all-new Mazda Axela (known overseas as the new Mazda3) at all Mazda dealers throughout Japan. The sales launch is set for June 11, 2009.

The first generation Mazda Axela debuted in October 2003, and has since built a devoted global following thanks to its lively, distinct styling and sporty performance. The Mazda Axela/Mazda3 is available as either a four-door sedan or a five-door sporty hatchback. It has become a key model in Mazda’s lineup, selling over two million units in world markets and currently comprises over a third of Mazda’s annual global sales.

The new, second generation Axela inherits and evolves Mazda’s highly acclaimed sporty performance and exterior styling, and offers an outstanding interior with greater quality and functionality, as well as top class environmental and safety features.

Three grades in the Axela range — the 20C, 20S and the front-wheel drive (FWD) 20E — are newly equipped with i-stop, Mazda’s proprietary engine start-stop system that boasts a quick and smooth engine restart.

All Axela models provide enhanced eco-friendly credentials by qualifying as Super-Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles (SU-LEV), achieving exhaust emissions that are at least 75% lower than the levels required by the Japanese government’s 2005 exhaust emissions standard. Additionally, FWD models with the 2.0-liter engine achieve top class fuel economy*1 thanks to a comprehensive approach to fuel saving that includes i-stop. Models with the 1.5-liter engine are fitted with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and offer both top class fuel economy*2 and a sporty ride.
